Well another successful cougar hunt has come and gone! This year we had a very special guest, the owner and operator of Grizzly Creek Lodge in Yukon, Canada, Dave O’Farrell. After four hard days of hunting, and having his decoy shot, Josh put the smack-down on a beauty whitetail buck after calling him in to just 40 yards.
Having shot his buck in Saskatchewan just 5 days ago, Tyler gets his first opportunity to sit in Alberta with the rifle. With the weather pushing -20 Celsius (-4 Fahrenheit), it makes it hard to sit still. Not to mention how slow the video camera functions. With no action whatsoever, and the evening coming to a close, the movement suddenly picked up and a vulnerable buck made the mistake of following a doe’s trail.
After a solid week of hunting, Josh gets a chance on a big buck that he passed up earlier in the hunt. This time however, Josh makes the most of the opportunity and brings this big Saskatchewan buck to the ground.

One year ago, Josh went down to Idaho, USA on an elk hunt and shot a massive 365” bull. This year he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go down for round two. Nearing the end of the hunt, Josh spotted a herd of elk funneling into a field, with the bull on their tails. After waiting for three hours for the bull to stand up, Josh made a perfect shot on this beautiful 6x5 bull.
While still trying to get Tyler an elk with the bow, the Slager Outdoors team headed into the bush yet again. Josh called an entire herd of elk in, but all that was visible was one spike bull, who sounded the alarm and took off! After much more calling, and lots of response, all of a sudden three moose, including one bull came running in. Josh decided to start moose calling instead, and called the bull within 36 yards of Tyler, giving him the perfect shot.

After trying hard all season long, and having zero luck getting the buck he was after, Josh decided to re-visit one of his old spots. With only a few days left in that particular season, here comes a whopper down the line! After a couple of grunts by Josh, the buck closed the gap from about 300 yards to 30 yards in the snap of a finger, presenting Josh with a perfect shot! This 180” buck is a big 5x5 with a 6” sticker of the side off his main beam.

Josh and Ryan return from their Idaho elk hunt both shooting their bulls. Ryan's, a beautiful 5x5, and Josh's, a monster 365" 6x6. The hunt almost dragged out to the final day, as most of the opportunities on these free-ranging elk were at a great distance. Being at 600+ yards.

After arriving in our elk hunting location, mid-morning for archery season, we went out to check some of our trail cams that we had set out three weeks prior. After picking up our cameras we decided to check out the area for some mule deer. That's when Josh spotted a big buck standing in the canola. The chase was on. The buck bedded down leaving us puzzled as to where he was. So Josh attempted to make the stalk on this huge deer. All of a sudden the buck lifted his head at 54 yards, stood up and Josh let an arrow fly, hitting the buck square in the lungs. It is the biggest mule deer Josh has taken with his bow to date.
